Riding from Birmingham to the Chief Ladiga Trail

This is mostly just a place to document some of the options. But I would like to also state that people who don’t ride 20,000 miles on a bicycle every year don’t have a good perspective on the hierarchy of dangers in cycling. For example, riding a two-lane county road with a speed limit of 55mph is far more dangerous than riding a 70+ mph speed limit interstate if the shoulder is good and wide enough. There’s a good reason why many states out west allow you to ride a bicycle on interstate highways.

56 different routes I’ve taken to/from the Chief Ladiga trail (or at least within 10 miles of it) from my home in Hoover, one time after first biking downtown for a Pokemon event and then biking over to the Anniston area. This also includes biking to the Camp Sumatanga training race near Gadsden, doing the race, and then biking the rest of the way to Atlanta for a superbowl playoff game. The left circled spot is my house in Hoover. The middle circled spot is the section of I-20 where US-78 merges for a couple miles. The small blue circle on the right is the somewhat tricky to access Chief Ladiga trailhead in Weaver.

Here’s the full list of 56 routes I’ve taken:

Hey Brian! I’ve enjoyed reading your blog. I searched your name after seeing you were the top Wandrer athlete in the US (by percentage of roads covered). Impressive!

Would you be open to scheduling an interview and being featured on Wandrer News? I have written several freelance blogs for Wandrer and would love to write one about you and perhaps a few other top US-based Wandrers. Let me know if you’re interested and we can schedule a ~30 min video call.

If you want to check out some other Wandrer blogs I’ve written you can find them here:

LMK if you have any questions for me. Thanks!
